Jannik Sinner won his third career Major title at the 2025 Australian Open in comprehensive fashion on Sunday (January 25), downing Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the final. The Italian was in good spirits following his win over the German as he treated himself to a champagne in his post-match press conference.
Sinner put in his most impressive performance of the fortnight Down Under. The World No. 1 didn't face a single break point on his serve, routing Zverev by a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 in two hours and 45 minutes.
Following the trophy ceremony, Jannik Sinner attended his customary press conference with the Australian Open trophy and champagne in hand. At the end of his interaction with the media, the 23-year-old acknowledged the journalists who covered his Melbourne campaign by tipping his glass to them.
"Cheers everyone," Jannik Sinner said before walking off with his trophy and champagne.
The Italian was in phenomenal form during the men's singles summit clash on Sunday. The top seed won a whopping 84% of his first-serve points while also creating 10 break-point opportunities in Zverev's service games, converting eight of them.
Sinner achieved several impressive feats on account of his successful Australian Open defense. The 23-year-old is now the youngest player to win ten consecutive straight-set matches against top 10 opposition - a run that dates back to his 2024 Shanghai Masters beatdown of Novak Djokovic.
Jannik Sinner to Alexander Zverev after Australian Open final: "Keep believing in yourself"
During his winner's speech at the 2025 Australian Open, Jannik Sinner extended his sympathy to his opponent Alexander Zverev, who broke into tears following his third Major final defeat. The World No. 1 insisted that Zverev was "strong" and that he will put this setback behind him soon.
"First of all, I would like to start with Sascha. Again, a tough day for you, and then not only [you], I mean your whole team, your family, you have an incredible team behind you," Sinner said during the trophy ceremony. "You're an amazing player. Keep believing in yourself because I think, we all players, and not only all the coaches, whoever is involved in the sport knows how strong you are."
With his Melbourne defeat of the World No. 2, Sinner improved to a 3-4 record in their head-to-head meetings on the ATP Tour. He has won both of his two encounters against the German since rising to the top of the men's singles rankings.
