Leylah Fernandez successfully managed to convince ATP players Jaume Pla Malfeito and Federico Salomone to join her in a fun dance session. The Canadian is currently gearing up for the 2025 United Cup.
After rejuvenating themselves during the offseason, the players will return to action as tennis heads into a highly anticipated year. The first stop for many top tennis stars in the 2025 season will be the United Cup, and it seems that many have already arrived in Perth and Sydney for their respective group-stage ties.
Team Canada starlet Leylah Fernandez, who has kicked off her preparation in full force, beamed with pride after convincing tennis players Jaume Pla Malfeito and Federico Salomone to hop onto the viral TikTok dance and added a joke that read, 'How we feel about starting the season at United Cup,' while the song Paper Planes provided the tunes.
"Leylah Fernandez successfully ‘convinces’ Canada teammates in hilarious dancing session during United Cup preparations," She captioned her post.
Fernandez will be teaming up with Canadian No. 1 and team captain Felix Auger-Aliassime, Liam Draxl, Stacey Fung, Benjamin Sigouin, and Ariana Arseneault at the 2025 United Cup. They will be placed in Group A, alongside inaugural United Cup champions Team USA and Team Croatia.
Being placed in Group A means that Team Canada will play their matches at the RAC Arena in Perth, and if they manage to score a deep run, they will head to Sydney to play the rest of their matches at the Ken Rosewall Arena.
A look into how Leylah Fernandez Team Canada performed at the 2024 United Cup
Team Canada had a disappointing outing at the 2024 United Cup last year despite a phenomenal start. They were placed in Group B alongside Greece and Chile and faced the latter first. Thanks to Leylah Fernandez's heroics in singles and doubles, the Canadians won the opening tie 2-1.
However, a shocking 0-3 against Greece in their second tie led to Canada ending up at the bottom of the table. Fernandez was defeated by Maria Sakkari in straight sets. Fortunately, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriela Dabrowski brought Canada glory during the Paris Olympics, where the duo clinched a bronze in mixed doubles.
Leylah Fernandez is no stranger to stepping up for her nation, as her heroics helped Canada lift their maiden Billie Jean King Cup title. A clutch Fernandez won all five of her matches during the Cup Finals, which included the historic straight-set win against Jasmine Paolini, which clinched the cup for Canada.
