Leylah Fernandez was recently captured laughing boisterously during a tennis ball-themed photoshoot, where numerous balls were thrown at her. She jokingly remarked that she had "risked her life" for the pictures.

With the 2024 season now over, tennis stars are focusing on off-court projects, and Fernandez is no exception. In what appeared to be a commercial, she stood in a white sleeveless shirt and a pleated black skirt. The video began with the text, “The last time I risked my life for a photo,” before showing a flurry of tennis balls raining down around her. Startled but amused, Fernandez couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Posting the video on her Instagram on Monday, Leylah Fernandez shared her excitement about the photoshoot and hinted at a few exciting projects in the works.

“Can't wait to share the results of this shoot with you!! Some exciting projects in the works!” - Fernandez said.

Over the years, the Canadian has secured numerous sponsorships from various brands. Formerly with Asics, she transitioned to Canadian apparel company Lululemon, becoming their first tennis ambassador. Fernandez also partners with notable brands like Google, Flair Airlines, Morgan Stanley, and more.

Leylah Fernandez kicked off her 2024 season at the Australian Open, where she exited in the second round, losing to Alicia Parks. In February, she reached the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open but was defeated by Elena Rybakina.

Following this, Fernandez struggled with her form, failing to progress beyond the second round in any WTA tournament until the French Open. There, she defeated Jessika Ponchet and Xiyu Wang in the opening rounds before falling to Ons Jabeur in the third round.

In between, her loss to Great Britain's Katie Boulter in the quarterfinals of the Billie Jean King Cup was another downer, but later words of advice from the iconic tennis star herself were a big source of inspiration for the Canadian ahead of the 2025 season.

During the grass-court season, Fernandez competed at the Birmingham Classic, reaching the quarterfinals before being outclassed by Australia's Ajla Tomljanović.

The following week, she had an impressive run at the Eastbourne International, defeating Barbora Krejčíková, Ashlyn Krueger, Harriet Dart, and Madison Keys to reach the final. In the final, Daria Kasatkina defeated Leylah Fernandez in straight sets to clinch the title.

She began the North American swing on home soil at the Canadian Open, where she was eliminated in the second round by Ashlyn Krueger. At Cincinnati, she made it to the quarterfinals but her run was halted by Jessica Pegula. At the US Open, she was unable to replicate her impressive 2021 form and suffered a first-round exit to Anastasia Potapova.

Fernandez wrapped up her season in Asia, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open, where she was defeated by Zheng Qinwen. She then progressed to the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open but was defeated by Diana Shnaider.
