Madison Keys broke down into tears while giving an interview following her massive win over second seed Iga Swiatek in the semifinals of the 2025 Australian Open. The American turned around a one-set deficit to reach the final of a Grand Slam for the second time.

Keys entered the Happy Slam as the 19th seed and scored wins over Ann Li, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, and 10th seed Danielle Collins. She clinched a straight set win over sixth seed Elena Rybakina in the fourth round following which she came back from a set down to defeat 28th seed Elina Svitolina to reach the last four.

While the world hoped to witness an Aryna Sabalenka vs Iga Swiatek final, Madison Keys had other plans. She defeated the Pole 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(8) after two hours and 36 minutes of enthralling tennis, saving a match point en route. The 29-year-old admitted she was over the moon after making it to the final during an interview with Eurosport.

"Yeah, I felt like I should stay. It's so late and so many people stayed. So I was like, I can sign some autographs. But no, I can't. I haven't quite come back down to earth, but I'll be here on Saturday," Madison Keys said.

The 19th seed later revealed how she survived the Swiatek onslaught and while reflecting back on her journey, she became emotional and shed tears. Keys had made it to the final of the 2017 US Open but lost to her compatriot Sloane Stephens in straight sets.

"I just kept thinking, just get any point that can. Just stay in it, stay in it, try to keep it close. Yeah, it's been a rollercoaster. I'm going to cry again. I have worked so hard to be here again. It just feels amazing."

Keys also burst into tears following her monumental win.

Though she has defeated Grand Slam champions such as Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek, the woman who awaits Keys in the final is the reigning queen of Melbourne.

Madison Keys will take on two-time defending champion and top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the 2025 Australian Open, in what will be the sixth meeting between the two women. The Belarusian boasts a 4-1 lead over the American.

Sabalenka has continued her scintillating form and is currently on a 20-match win streak on hard-court Majors. She has only dropped a single set in the entire tournament, which came during her quarterfinal match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. She defeated her friend and 11th seed Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-2 to reach the summit clash for the third consecutive year.

Keys will be looking to become the first American woman since Sofia Kenin in 2020 to reign supreme in Melbourne.
