Madison Keys was seen unable to contain her laughter with tears of joy streaming down her face, after securing her first Grand Slam title at the 2025 Australian Open. Prior to this momentous victory, Keys' best result at the Grand Slam stage was finishing as the runner-up at the 2017 US Open, falling short to Sloane Stephens.
Keys was seeded 19th at the Melbourne Major and she faced top seed and two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Sabalenka had clinched the title in 2023 and 2024, defeating Elena Rybakina and Zheng Qinwen, respectively. Keys overpowered the World No.1 and emerged victorious, defeating Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena to claim her first Grand Slam trophy.
Following her triumph over Aryna Sabalenka, Madison Keys was captured, sitting on the players' bench overcome with laughter and with tears of happiness rolling down her face.

Madison Keys began her campaign at the 2025 Australian Open by defeating fellow American Ann Li 6-5, 7-5 in the first round, followed by a hard-fought win over qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse 7-6(1), 2-6, 7-5 in the second round.
The American continued her winning streak with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over 10th seed Danielle Collins and a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win over sixth seed Elena Rybakina in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
In the quarterfinals, she overcame 28th seed Elina Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and secured a victory against Iga Swiatek 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(8) in the semifinals to advance to the final where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka to claim the title.
Madison Keys after winning Australian Open 2025: “I’m gonna cry, I have wanted this for so long”
During the post-match trophy presentation ceremony at the 2025 Australian Open, Madison Keys emotionally expressed that winning a Grand Slam title was something that she has wished for a very long time. She credited her team for pushing her to achieve this dream, especially during times when she doubted herself.
“This is where I’m gonna cry. I have wanted this for so long and I have been in one other Grand Slam final and it did not go my way and I didn't know if I was ever going to be able to get back to this position to try to win a trophy again . My team believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and helped me every step of the way,” Madison Keys said
Keys went on to express her gratitude to all those who have supported and stood by her throughout her journey, helping her achieve her dream of winning a Grand Slam title.
“Last year was so tough with some really bad injuries and I didn’t know I was going to be able to do it again. I just want to say thank you so much . I am so appreciative to every single person who helped me continue to believe in myself and push me to achieve this dream . Thank you so much and I cannot wait to see you all next year,” she added
Before beginning her campaign at the 2025 Australian Open, Madison Keys had a quarterfinal run at the ASB Classic, before falling to eventual champion Clara Tauson. She then competed at the Adelaide International where she emerged victorious over compatriot Jessica Pegula in the final to claim the title.
