Maria Sharapova has started teaching her son Theodore the Russian language, with the two-year-old adorably trying his best to keep up. The Russian and her fiancé, Alexander Gilkes, welcomed their son on July 1, 2022.
After enjoying an illustrious career, Sharapova hung up her racket in 2020 and since then has kept herself busy with motherhood and her other business ventures.
The 37-year-old recently shared an adorable video on her Instagram where she could be seen teaching the Russian language to her son. She donned sunglasses and was seated near a table, which had the Russian alphabet laid out on it. She uttered one alphabet at a time and asked Theodore, who isn't visible in the video, to try and repeat them.
"How's you Tuesday??" she wrote.
Maria Sharapova had earlier shared some photos from their family trek celebrating Thanksgiving. She shared the stories on November 28, with two of them featuring Gilkes. In one, the 45-year-old was looking at the rugged hillside, while in the other picture, he was captured as he kept an eye on Theodore. In one of the stories, Sharapova was seen holding a beautiful basket of flowers.
Meanwhile, Alexander Gilkes had also recently shared a picture from his latest escape with his son Theodore, who could be seen working hard to find the perfect Christmas tree.
"How do you take care of yourself" - Maria Sharapova on how an athlete's life prepared her for motherhood
During a special Mother's Day interview, Maria Sharapova mentioned how the skills that she mastered as an athlete throughout her career have been of immense help during her time as a mother.
"There are many skills that you learn as an athlete, particularly as a female athlete along the way, and those are discipline, routine, and understanding preventive care for your body as an athlete. Your body is everything. That's your biggest tool," she said.
"And if it's not there for you, how are you going to compete at the highest level? And I'd say that is very much representative of what it is to be a mother," she added.
The Russian also highlighted the importance of shutting oneself off,
"How are you playing in front of thousands of people? And then, how do you find ways to just completely be still? You know, have a great night's sleep, relax. As a mother, that’s also very important. When you put your child down, how do you take care of yourself?"
Maria Sharapova recently opened up about her son Theodore's interest in tennis.
