Naomi Osaka found herself unable to contain her laughter after she witnessed Yulia Putintseva's on-court antics during their second-round match at the 2024 China Open. Despite the amusing distractions, Osaka managed to secure her third victory over the Kazakh in their six encounters on the WTA tour.

Osaka kicked off her Asian swing at the 2024 China Open. She began her WTA 1000 hardcourt tournament in Beijing by defeating Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. The Japanese then staged an impressive comeback against 21st seed Yulia Putintseva, rallying from being a set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.

During their match, Naomi Osaka was amused by Yulia Putintseva's antics on the court. Throughout the match, the Kazakh had some problems. She was visibly frustrated during her interactions with the ball kids and had stopped Osaka from serving on various occasions as she had issues with the spectators behind the Japanese. Putintseva also argued with the chair umpire during the match.

All these idiosyncrasies and quirky behavior of Yulia Putintseva forced a laugh out of Naomi Osaka. However, the former World No.1 managed to compose herself and focus on the game.

Before beginning her Asian swing, Naomi Osaka had completed her North American hardcourt swing where she had some forgettable outings. At the 2024 Canadian Open, while she defeated Ons Jabeur in the first round, she lost to Elise Mertens in the second round.

At the Cincinnati Open, Osaka failed to secure her place in the main draw, losing to Ashlyn Krueger in the second qualifying round. Then at the 2024 US Open, Osaka defeated Jelena Ostapenko in the first round before falling to Karolina Muchova in the second.

Naomi Osaka will face Katie Volynets in the China Open 2024 3R

Naomi Osaka will take on American Katie Volynets in the third round of the 2024 China Open.

Osaka earned her spot in this round of the WTA 1000 hard court tournament in Beijing after defeating Lucia Bronzetti and Yulia Putintseva in the initial and subsequent rounds, respectively.

Meanwhile, Volynets secured her place in the third round by defeating qualifier Dalma Galfi with a score of 7-5, 6-1 in the first round and then triumphing over 14th seed Marta Kostyuk with a score of 7-5, 7-3 in the second.

Osaka and Volynets have never faced each other on the WTA tour, making their upcoming match at the China Open their first encounter. The winner of this match will advance to face either fourth seed Coco Gauff or 26th seed Katie Boulter in the fourth round.
