Nicolas Jarry clinched the 2023 Chile Open title after overcoming Argentinian Tomas Etcheverry on Monday, March 6. However, it was his toddler who stole the show with his antics during the Chilean's winning speech.
The home favorite lost the first-set tie-breaker. While he led the second set 4-1, his opponent broke back, taking the set to a tie-break. Jarry won the second set, giving the 27-year-old a chance to get back in the game. He used the opportunity well and closed the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.
In the on-court interview, the former World No. 38 held his son Juan Jarry in his arms while the interviewer asked him how much his experience helped him through a tough match since this was his fourth ATP final. Before Jarry could answer, his son grabbed the mic and tried to put it in his mouth.
The baby boy's playfulness elicited a laugh from both the interviewer and the title winner. Jarry smiled lovingly at his son before turning his attention back to the interviewer.
This is the Chilean's second title win since the Bastad Open in 2019. The win also means he now earns the World No. 52 spot.
