On Thursday, January 23, Aryna Sabalenka took on her close friend Paula Badosa in the semifinal of the 2025 Australian Open. After a shaky start to the match, the Belarusian took control and ran away with a 6-4, 6-2 win.

During her post-match interview, she was informed how close she was to etching her name in history. The World No. 1 has already won the title in Melbourne in 2023 and 2024. She is chasing a hat-trick of Australian Open titles, previously achieved only by five women in the Open Era including Margaret Court, Evonne Goolagong, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, and Martina Hingis.

"I have goosebumps. I am so proud of myself and my team that we were able to put ourselves in such a situation," Sabalenka responded. "If I put my name in history it will mean the world for me. I couldn't even dream of it."

In the final on Saturday, she will take on Madison Keys. The American WTA star defeated Iga Swiatek in a thrilling semifinal by saving a match point and converting her own soon after. Sabalenka and Keys are on an 11-match win streak including titles in Brisbane and Adelaide, respectively.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is chasing a record-extending 11th Australian Open title and a historic 25th Grand Slam. The 37-year-old defeated World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinal and will take on Alexander Zverev in the semifinal.

Djokovic and Zverev have faced each other 12 times on tour and the Serb leads the head-to-head 8-4. The winner of their match will take on the winner of the semifinal between World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and World No. 20 Ben Shelton in the final on Sunday, January 26.
