Novak Djokovic celebrated his compatriot Olga Danilovic delivering one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 Australian Open. Danilovic took out seventh seed Jessica Pegula in straight sets to earn a statement win.
The Serbian fans at the Rod Laver Arena were treated to a double delight. Djokovic kicked the night session off against Tomas Machac. Many believed that Machac would trouble the 24-time Major champion, who hadn't played his best tennis so far. However, the 37-year-old displayed his finest form to decimate the Czech 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
Danilovic played Jessica Pegula for the second match of the night session at Rod Laver Arena. The 23-year-old shocked the tennis fraternity by defeating the 2024 US Open finalist 7-6(3), 6-1 in just an hour and 30 minutes. That delighted the Serbian fans among the crowd, who witnessed two of their nation's stars win back-to-back matches.
However, there was also a special Serbian who celebrated Olga Danilovic's monumental win. Novak Djokovic stayed back after his match to watch Danilovic play from the player area. He celebrated the win by raising his arms in the air and giving the 23-year-old a round of applause.
The Serbian duo competed together at the 2024 United Cup. A moment of Danilovic being surprised by the 37-year-old's Mandarin skills went viral.
It is interesting to note that Jessica Pegula is the highest-ranked opponent Danilovic has defeated in her young career. She will face another high-ranked opponent in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic will also be facing a dangerous opponent next.
