A sneak peek at how Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have performed at the Olympic Games
Djokovic and Nadal are two of the most decorated tennis players in history, and the rivalry between the duo has been one of the fiercest in sports. Without delay, let's take a look at how they have fared at the Olympic Games over the course of their careers.
Djokovic's first participation was at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where his run was halted in the semifinal by eventual gold medalist Rafael Nadal. The Serb, however, went home with the bronze medal after defeating James Blake. Following his impressive first appearance, he went on to compete for the bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but did not win. The Rio 2016 Olympics came with a shock as the former world No. 1 was eliminated in the first round by Juan Martín del Potro.
Nadal, on the other hand, made his debut at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he partnered with his current coach Carlos Moyá in the doubles category, but they were eliminated in the first round. Nadal then clinched his first gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics by defeating Fernando González in the final. The Spaniard missed the next edition in London in 2012 due to injury, but at the Rio 2016 Olympics, he partnered with Marc Lopez and won the gold medal in the doubles category.
