Novak Djokovic’s wife Jelena recently posted an adorable video of the couple dancing together to mark a very special occasion.
On Monday, February 27, Novak Djokovic entered his 378th week as the World No. 1. By doing so, the Serb overtook German tennis legend Steffi Graf, who previously held the record and was in peak position for a spectacular 377 weeks.
With the latest developments, Djokovic is now the longest-reigning World No. 1 in the history of both the ATP and WTA.
To celebrate the historic feat, the 35-year-old’s wife Jelena shared a sweet video of the couple slow-dancing to the background of “Simply the Best” by Tina Turner, as they lovingly looked into each other’s eyes. The mother-of-two jokingly referred to the Serb’s illustrious tennis career as a widely known “Love Affair” -- one that she had no complaints about, however.
She went on to call Novak Djokovic the “Best Tennis Player” for the longest time in the history of the sport.
“Celebrating Novak’s tennis LOVE AFFAIR that has been going on for quite some time…. And everyone knows about it (and wife doesn’t mind at all lol) @djokernole " she said.
"NOVAK IS THE BEST TENNIS PLAYER FOR THE LONGEST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF TENNIS (mike drop) #378 weeks and counting,” wrote an overjoyed Jelena Djokovic.
“#proudwifey,” the World No. 1 said in response to the endearing celebration.
"Everywhere I go, I want to win" – Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is currently in Dubai as he aims to lift a sixth title at the ATP 500 Dubai Tennis Championships. In a recent press conference ahead of the tournament, the Serb remarked that it was a surreal achievement for him to be ranked World No. 1 for such a long period of time.
"I could not have imagined it at that point, to be honest. I was dreaming as a kid to be Wimbledon champion, to be No. 1 in the world. I achieved those dreams [in] 2011. After that, of course, I wanted more. I still want more achievements," he said.
Now that he has yet another significant record in his bag, the 22-time Grand Slam champion said that he wasn’t done and was looking forward to more accomplishments and was shifting his focus to winning Grand Slams.
"I have other priorities, top priorities, which is first of all trying to be healthy and preparing myself in every sense of that word for the tournaments that I'm going to be participating in, particularly building form and trying to peak at the Grand Slams," he said.
"Everywhere I go, I want to win. Every trophy I get to win maybe values three, four times as much as some trophies that I won some years ago, 10 years ago, because I know that it's different," he added.
