Ons Jabeur on her rise in the WTA rankings - "The turning point was when I made the quarterfinals at the Australian Open"
Ons Jabeur appeared on a recent episode of 'Abtal' podcast along with Mayar Sherrif and talked about the turning point in her career, which saw her catapult into the top 10 of the WTA rankings.
The Tunisian said that 2019 was a turning point in her career when she ended the year as World No. 77 but was resolute in breaking into the top 10.
“For me, there was a certain turning point in 2019, I was playing good, I had a good ranking around 50 or 30 and I looked at my coach and I was like, 'I'm sick of losing against top 10 players even though I know that I can be a top 10 player. I've beaten them so many times, and I believe my level is there,'” Ons Jabeur said (20:22).
She said that reaching the quarterfinals at the 2020 Australian Open made her take giant strides to reach her goal of being a top 10 player in the WTA Rankings.
"As soon as I said I want to be a top 10 player, that became my goal. The turning point was when I made the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, the first time I went deep into the second week. That was a changing point, and the moment, I decided 'enough is enough,' many things changed for me,” Jabeur said.
Ons Jabeur has reached as high as World No. 2 and is currently ranked No. 9.
