Roger Federer and his wife Mirka showed contrasting reactions to Ben Shelton's fall at the 2024 Laver Cup. The American was playing his doubles match with Frances Tiafoe against Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud when he took a tumble.
On day three of the Laver Cup, Shelton found himself amid a potentially dangerous situation as he took a fall while going for the ball during the doubles match. In the second set, at 5-5, 40-40, Ruud's shot saw the American running to reach the ball but Shelton couldn't keep the rally going and lost the point. He, however, challenged the call by raising his hand and while doing so, fell over the advertising boards near Team's Europe dugout.
He was helped up by Team Europe and Alcaraz walked over to check on him. Shelton escaped any injury as he continued the match. The American pair could not escape a loss as they went down fighting 2-6, 6-7(6).
Federer, who had been at the tournament all three days, was left shocked. His wife Mirka's reaction was contrasting, as she kept a poker face during the fiasco. Seated alongside the Swiss Maestro, was Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine. She too was baffled at the fall.

Roger Federer: "It’s very much a bittersweet week"
Roger Federer recently talked about the 2024 Laver Cup being a bittersweet tournament for him. The former World No. 1 was emotional about current captains, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, departing after the tournament.
“For me it’s very much a bittersweet week with Bjorn and John because I would love them to be captains forever. At the same time, we’ve got to move with the times, I guess,” he said (via ATP Tour).
The Swiss Maestro revealed that Borg and McEnroe were initially roped in to be the captains for two to four years only but ended up being in their roles for seven years.
"It’s been seven great years. Couldn’t have had better captains, to be honest,” he added.
Federer hoped Borg and McEnroe would return to the Laver Cup, albeit as guests and spectators.
“Of course, in the future I hope that Bjorn and John will return and pass on the torch… to Yannick and Andre, that they will always be friends and guests as captains of the inaugural event,” he said.
Yannick Noah will be the captain of Team Europe, while Andre Agassi will take the reins of Team World.
