Serena Williams has swapped her tennis racquet for a golf club for a brand new commercial ahead of the upcoming Super Bowl.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion was featured alongside “Succession” actor Brian Cox in an entertaining commercial for Michelob Ultra. Williams looked the part as she seamlessly switched from wearing a diamond-encrusted look at the 2022 US Open to wearing a plaid ivy hat for her golfing stint.
The ad showcased a calm and composed Williams scoring a hilarious win against a visibly rattled Brian Cox.
Speaking about accepting the role to play in the Super Bowl commercial, the former World No. 1 said that it was essential that she resonated with the brand and the product. The American further praised the brand for consistently bringing more to the table by giving appropriate consideration to men and women.
“First of all, you have to have a genuine like for the product, right? Second of all, like, what are you doing outside of that? Is there something special? And that’s what I love about Michelob Ultra,” Serena Williams said in an interview with CBS.
“They really are animate about making sure there’s gender (equity) when it comes to male and female – in particular women athletes and men athletes,” she added. “It is reflected in that commercial and this is the second year in a row that they have the same number of female athletes or women athletes as they do male athletes.”
"I am 100% not evolving into golf" – Serena Williams denies taking up the sport in real life
While the recently retired Serena Williams played a convincing part as a golfer in the Michelob Ultra Super Bowl commercial, the tennis legend denied the idea that “evolving outside of tennis” meant switching sports in real life.
She stated the same in a CBS interview.
“I am 100% not evolving into golf,” she laughed when asked by host Gayle King.
Williams is instead concentrating on her family life and her role as a businesswoman – leading her venture capital firm Serena Ventures. The 41-year-old also revealed her five-year-old daughter Olympia’s wish to have a sibling.
“Now she prays,” Williams said, laughing. “Now she prays for a sibling.”
“And the other day, she’s like, ‘Everyone has a brother or sister but me.’ And I am like, ‘Olympia, I am working on it. Mommy worked a little too long in tennis, so it’s taking a little longer than expected,’” she added.
