Zheng Qinwen shared her personal stance on post-match interactions after a loss, revealing her "no-hug" policy. She also opened up about her thoughts on the customary post-match handshake, offering her perspective on the tradition.

During a press conference following her opening victory over Anca Todoni at the 2025 Australian Open, the 2024 Paris Olympic Gold Medalist discussed the tradition of shaking hands after a match.

"Well, I always give a handshake to my opponent because I feel that basic respect doesn't matter if I win or lose I always give a handshake but not always. I always give a handshake with a smiley face I know myself," she said.

The Chinese tennis pro also mentioned that she doesn't enjoy sharing hugs after a match.

"Usually I don't often give a hug to my opponent as well because I feel that is not necessary for me because I come here just to play a match”

She also mentioned that she would show respect without pretending with fake smiles in post-match courtesies.

“If I lose, I will give you just basic respect and that's it. That's why you will not see me um lose one match and with a happy face to the opponent. If you saw that on me that is very strange which means I don't care about that match in that day," she added.

The World No. 5 will take on Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open on Wednesday, January 15, at the John Cain Arena.
