Australia's Matthew Ebden and John Peers won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Several Aussie tennis stars celebrated their achievement, including Alex de Minaur and Ajla Tomljanovic.
Aussies Matthew Ebden and John Peers took on the USA's Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek in the men's doubles gold medal match on Saturday, August 3. The Americans were on their way to gold on the Court Philippe Chatrier as they won the first set and earned a break in the second.
However, the Aussies forced a tiebreaker in the second set after going 2-4 down and won the set. The 10-point match tie-break was forced for the first time for both teams as they had reached the final without dropping a set. The unseeded Aussie pair went into a comfortable 9-5 lead in the deciding tie-break.
The American pair clawed their way back winning three points but the Aussies kept their cool to get the job done and win 6-7(6), 7-6(1), [10-8].
Many Australian tennis stars celebrated Ebden and Peers' triumph. Australia's No. 1 men's singles player Alex de Minaur took to his Instagram Story and wrote:
"Way too good"

Matthew Ebden and John Peers won Australia's second gold medal in Olympic tennis history
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Matthew Ebden and John Peers earned Australia's second tennis gold medal at the Olympics. The first was won by Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde when they defeated Great Britain's Neil Broad and Tim Henman in the 1996 Atlanta final, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
Ebden and Peers have added to an already impressive resume. Ebden is a two-time Grand Slam champion in men’s doubles, while Peers is an Australian Open men’s doubles champion, having won the title in 2017.
This is Ebden’s first medal at the Olympics and Peers’ second. At the 2020 Tokyo Games, Peers teamed with Ash Barty to win the mixed doubles bronze medal by defeating Serbia's Nina Stojanovic and Novak Djokovic.
