Taylor Fritz hilariously called out ESPN for following his girlfriend Morgan Riddle but not him on Instagram after his third-round win at the US Open 2024. He became the first American since Andre Agassi to reach the second week of all four Grand Slams in a single year. The 26-year-old has been in sublime form at Flushing Meadows, making the Round of 16 without dropping a set.
Ahead of his campaign at the New York Major, Fritz attended 'Taste of Tennis' - an event that brings the best of the tennis and the culinary world in the same room. While heading back, his girlfriend Morgan Riddle shared a funny story on Instagram. ESPN had followed her on Instagram, but not the American No.1.
“Taylor’s mad tonight because ESPN followed me on Instagram and doesn’t follow him,” she wrote.
Taylor Fritz made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and the fourth round of the French Open. He's now in the last 16 at Flushing Meadows.
After ESPN congratulated him on Twitter, Fritz mentioned loving the shoutout but also pointed out how they still didn't give him a follow on Instagram.
"🔥 Love the shoutout from @espn but you follow my gf and not me on insta so we have beef," Fritz tweeted.
Fritz and Riddle met on via the dating app Raya in 2020 and have been together since.
The 12th seed kicked off his campaign with a routine win against Camilo Ugo Carabelli and followed it up with a resounding straight-set result against Matteo Berrettini in the second round. He comfortably defeated Francisco Comesana 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the Last 16.
Taylor Fritz will play Casper Ruud in the fourth round of the 2024 US Open
Taylor Fritz will play eighth seed Casper Ruud in the fourth round of the 2024 US Open, in what will be the third meeting between the two. The Norwegian won both encounters, with the latest win coming at the French Open 2024 in four sets.
Coming into the US Open, Ruud withdrew from the Canadian Open in the third round before losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters. However, the Norwegian has found his rhythm in New York, ousting Bu Yunchaokete, Gael Monfils, and Shang Juncheng in his opening three rounds.
The winner of this encounter will play the winner between Brandon Nakashima and Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
