Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic shared friendly banter over the soccer match between Denmark and Serbia at the UEFA Euro 2024. The former revealed their conversation after his appearance at a tennis exhibition event.

Denmark and Serbia played their last group-stage match at the Euro 2024 on June 26. Both teams had drawn their previous two matches and were in contention to qualify for the knockout stage. Serbian tennis legend Djokovic was present at the Allianz Arena in Munich to provide moral support to his compatriots and was seen on the sidelines cheering them on.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw, with Denmark progressing to the round of 16 and Serbia exiting the tournament. Danish tennis star Holger Rune talked about the match with Djokovic before kick-off and revealed their conversation after his match at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic at the Hurlingham Club in London. The tournament is an exhibition event held just before the Wimbledon Championships.

Rune joked that he and Djokovic are still good friends despite the result in Munich. The Dane added that he planned to go to Munich with the Serb to watch the match and was pleased with the result.

“Definitely. We had a long conversation in the locker room. We are still friends, so that’s good. He actually went to Munich. We were speaking about going together. Idk how to describe the match…but atleast we went through,” Rune said.

Holger Rune is playing at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic in preparation for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, which will begin on July 1. The Dane has not been at his best on the 2024 season and has slipped from World No. 8, his ranking at the start of the year, to World No. 15.

Rune kicked off the grass swing at the ATP 500 cinch Championships and suffered an upset loss against Australia's Jordan Thompson. The 21-year-old has not won a title this year yet and will head to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club with high hopes.

Rune reached the quarterfinals at SW19 in 2023 and is the No. 15 seed this year. Meanwhile, last year's runners-up Novak Djokovic is unsure about his participation at the Grasscourt Slam. The former World No. 1 suffered a knee injury during his campaign at the French Open and underwent surgery. He has been in recovery since and hopes to be physically ready in time for Wimbledon.
