The tennis season is all set to touch a fever pitch with the Australian Open scheduled to begin on January 12. The qualifying rounds have already commenced from January 6, with main draw action set to begin next Sunday.

The Rod Laver Arena is one of the most astounding stadiums in world tennis. The Australian Open has attracted large crowds in recent years, who vociferously support their favorite players. However, there are some strict regulations regarding what the patrons can bring inside the stadium premises.

As per the rules, only one bag is permitted for one single person. It needs to be noted that the dimensions of the bag are such that it can fit under the seat. However, there are certain stipulations regarding the contents of the bag as well. Bringing alcohol that is purchased outside the stadium is not permissible within the premises.

Apart from alcoholic beverages, camera tripods, camera lenses exceeding 200mm, containers of more than 1.5L capacity, inflatables, balloons, animals, and any form of musical instruments are also within the prohibited list. Entry of any form of combustible materials, such as flares, firecrackers, and smoke bombs, is also restricted.

People are also not permitted to bring animals inside, unless in the case of assistance or support animals. The entry of skateboards, roller skates, and vehicles such as scooters and bicycles is also prohibited.

Umbrellas and medicines are among the items that the audience can bring inside the stadium

Of the permissible items to carry inside at the 2025 Australian Open, medicines and umbrellas are some of the top items. Allowing medicines is a no-brainer, as often people with medical conditions come to watch the matches, and they would require their timely medications.

As for the timing of the Australian Open, it takes place in the peak of the Melbourne summer when soaring temperatures are a norm. Even though the extreme heat policy at the tournament has the provision for closing the roof to provide some relief to players and audience alike, common people watching the matches need extra protection from the glaring sun with umbrellas.

Other items that are okay to bring in are non-alcoholic beverages, any sort of food item, plastic or paper cutlery so that they are easy to dispose of, deodorants and perfumes, and also selfie sticks.

In other restricted items, laser pointers, large hampers, banners exceeding 1x1M dimensions, chairs, stools, tennis racquets, and glass items are prohibited from being brought in.
