Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek and other tennis stars' respective official photos for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics are now available for viewing. However, the photos have amused fans due to their bizarre natures.
The tennis tournament of the 2024 Paris Olympics is slated to begin on Saturday, July 27. While Djokovic (Serbia) and Alcaraz (Spain) are among the stars to look out for on the men's side, Pegula (USA) and Swiatek (Poland) are two of the players to draw attention on the women's side.
As is custom, the official Olympics website uploads official photos of competing athletes across all disciplines in the days leading up to the big event. Recently, all the tennis players' photos were uploaded as well, but instead of presenting them in a professional and polished way, as is the case with the official ATP and WTA websites, the photos resemble ordinary mugshots.
This has amused the majority of tennis fans, who have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their hilarious views on the subject. One set of fans opined that the photos seem as if the players were convicted of crimes and then their photos were captured following their arrests.
"What were their crimes and how long are their sentences?" asked a fan hilariously.
"A mugshot after getting arrested for doping," another fan wrote, followed by Djokovic's photo.
"This is such a mugshot," another fan chimed in with Pegula's photo.
Another set of fans came up with a myriad of funny reactions to the photos.
"These look like Costco membership card photos," a fan wrote.
"Wait, the Olympics can’t afford to use pictures that aren’t passport photos?" commented another fan.
"Gah dam Iga got a big a** forehead," opined yet another fan, referring to Swiatek's photo.
Novak Djokovic is gunning for elusive Olympic Gold while high-flying Carlos Alcaraz is set to make his debut
Djokovic has expressed repeatedly in the recent past that doing well at the 2024 Paris Olympics is one of his main goals for this year. The Serb, despite all his staggering achievements in tennis, is yet to win Gold at the Olympics, with his best finish at the Games coming in 2008, when he finished in third place in singles and won a Bronze medal.
The 2024 Olympics may also be the Serb's last Olympics outing. The 37-year-old said earlier this year at a press conference ahead of his ill-fated BNP Paribas Open campaign that the next edition of the Olympics, to be hosted in Los Angeles in 2028, is "still very far to think about".
On the other hand, 21-year-old Alcaraz is all set to make his debut Olympics appearance. The Spaniard is in breathtaking form, having won two back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships ahead of the Games. Alcaraz is also slated to pair up with the legendary Rafael Nadal to play doubles.
