Serena Williams' husband empathized with Reggie Jackson over his experience with racism. Jackson is a former baseball player who has played for Kansas City, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, and California Angels in the MLB.

Recently, Jackson talked about how casual and rampant racism was during his playing days. He narrated an incident from 1967 where Alabama head coach Bear Bryant used a derogatory term as a compliment.

"I hit two triples in the game and I could run like a deer, and Bear Bryant came up to me and paid me a compliment. 1967. And he said to the group ‘this is just the king of n***er boy we need in order to compete with Bo [Schembelcher], Woddy [Hayes], Ara [Parsegian], and Johnny [Robinson]. He meant it as a compliment. He said, ‘if we don’t want to get one of these, were not going to be able to compete with them’. And about a few months later, USC came here with San Cunningham and beat Alabama 42-10," Reggie Jackson said.

Ohanian sympathized with his experience with racism and said that what Jackson experienced during the relatively modern era was 'nuts'. He wrote on X:

"Reggie Jackson keeping it 100 in media these days. What these men went through regularly, in the modern era, is nuts."

Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian took a bold step in 2020 when the United States of America was gripped by Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of the death of Geroge Floyd, a Black man, who was killed by a White police officer.

Ohanian quit Reddit and wished that his seat on the board to be given to a Black person. The Reddit co-founder also pledged money to serve the Black community.

"I've resigned as a member of the Reddit board, I have urged them to fill my seat with a black candidate, + I will use future gains on my Reddit stock to serve the black community, chiefly to curb racial hate," Alexis Ohanian wrote on X in 2020.
"I’m saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: “What did you do?” he said.

His efforts yielded positive results as Reddit named Michael Seibel, a Black man to the board a month after his resignation.
