British tennis player Liam Broady has expressed his feelings regarding Premier League side Manchester City's latest financial breaches controversy.
On Monday (February 6), Manchester City were charged by the Premier League for allegedly breaking numerous Financial Fair Play rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18.
It was suggested that if the allegations were to hold true, the football club would face the risk of points deduction, suspension, or being expelled from the competition.
World No. 175 Liam Broady, who hails from Stockport, Greater Manchester, and is a devoted fan of Manchester City, reacted to the shocking news.
“Cost of living rent free in every other football fans head for the past decade: the threat of possible points deduction and expulsion from the league,” he tweeted.
The British tennis player, who entertained his home crowd by reaching the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon, also reflected on the club’s journey from a fan’s perspective, recalling the highs and the lows, including four Premier League victories in five years.
“What a football club to support. Nobody else compares. The rollercoaster highs and lows. The titles, the football, the investigations, where we came from. What a time to be alive. C’mon the boys,” he tweeted.
"Makes me sick for how this sort of a high profile case could affect other people suffering from abuse” - Liam Broady on rape allegations against Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood
Liam Broady is a keen follower of all the happenings in the football world. The Brit voiced his firm opinion about the recent acquittal of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, who was accused of rape.
Broady protested the mishandling of the case and remarked that the athlete should not be allowed to play for any football club ever again, despite the charges being dropped after the withdrawal of a key witness.
"Mason Greenwood should never be anywhere near a professional football club ever again. Just goes to show how inept the criminal justice system is in the UK. We’ve all heard the recordings," Broady tweeted.
He further expressed his deep frustration about the impact of the dismissal of such a high-profile case, and the kind of message it sends to other victims of abuse.
"Makes me sick for how this sort of a high profile case could affect other people suffering from abuse. CPS the richer you are the more you get away with. Broken system," Liam Broady wrote.
