Emma Raducanu has opened up about how she celebrated her historic triumph at the 2021 US Open. Rather than indulging in a lavish dinner, the Brit disclosed that she and her family enjoyed a comforting homecooked meal prepared by her mother to commemorate the victory.

Raducanu produced a fairytale run at the 2021 US Open, beating Leylah Fernandez in the final to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title at just 18 years of age. She also made history as the first qualifier ever to win a Major title.

The Brit is gearing up to return to the New York Major for the 2024 edition of the event, which commences on August 26. The 21-year-old kicked off her North American hardcourt swing at the Citi Open, making a run to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Paula Badosa.

In a recent interview with Marie Claire, Emma Raducanu shared her best wellness and self-care tips as she continues her comeback journey after persistent injury issues. The Brit admitted that while comfort foods aren't usually part of her healthy lifestyle, she can acknowledge their value in enriching the soul.

Raducanu revealed her love for her mother's homemade spring rolls, fondly reminiscing about her "happiest" memory of enjoying her mother's homemade dishes after her triumph at the 2021 US Open instead of celebrating at a fancy restaurant.

"Comfort foods aren’t really part of my healthy lifestyle, but I guess they are healthy for the soul and the mind. I love my mum’s homemade spring rolls," Emma Raducanu said.
"And when I won the US Open, we didn’t go to a fancy restaurant or anything afterwards. Instead, I went home and my mum made dumplings and spring rolls. That for me is the most rewarding of moments, and where I truly feel the happiest," she added.

During the same interview, Emma Raducanu reflected on a piece of advice that has stayed with her since childhood, tracing its roots to her experience of watching 'Finding Nemo' with her mother Renee Zhang.

The Brit shared that her mother encouraged her to embrace the film's catchphrase, 'Just keep swimming,' which symbolizes perseverance and resilience.

"One piece of advice that has stuck with me literally since I was a child came from watching Finding Nemo with my mum. The fish would say, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming”, and my mum has repeated that to me ever since," she said.

The advice will come in handy for Emma Raducanu as she gears up for the 2024 US Open. The 21-year-old will not be in action at the Canadian Open or the Cincinnati Open, having not received wildcards for either of the WTA 1000 events.
