After beating Stefan Kozlov in the first round, he caused another huge upset, beating the sixth seed and defending champion, Gael Monfils, after a thrilling one-hour and 51-minute battle with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Yuki Bhambri then edged past Guido Pella 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 in the third round easily, one of the biggest wins of his career. However, his journey at the Citi Open ended in the quarterfinals, where he was overshadowed by finalist Kevin Anderson. He was the World No. 200 then, making his performance even more remarkable.
Yuki Bhambri set to play Citi Open after 7 years
The 2024 edition will now see Bhambri make a comeback to the Citi Open after seven years for the doubles with Albano Olivetti. The tournament is branded as the Mubadala Citi DC Open for sponsorship reasons and features an ATP Tour 500 series and a WTA 500 tournament.
This will take place at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C., from July 29 to August 4. This return marks an exciting chapter for Bhambri as he is going to look at it to make an even stronger impact this time.
It shall be noted that during the ATP World Tour 2017, Yuki Bhambri also showed his skill set in the Chennai Open by qualifying for the main draw and going on to win his first-round match against Ramkumar Ramanathan before losing to Benoit Paire in the second round.
