Tennis at the Paris Olympics 2024 will kick off on July 27 and conclude on August 4. While most top players are set to partake in the quadrennial sporting contest, a few have opted to skip for varied reasons.
This will mark the third occasion that the French capital will host the Olympics, and a century after the previous one was held in the city. While tennis hasn't always been a part of the games, the sport has been a regular fixture since its reintroduction in 1988.
The draw for this year's edition will be revealed on Thursday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. local time in Paris. One can follow the official social media handles of the Paris Olympics to track live updates of the draw on the day of the ceremony.
The men's and women's singles draws will consist of 64 players each, while the men's and women's doubles draws will feature 32 teams. Mixed doubles, on the other hand, will be contested by only 16 teams.
Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner headline the singles draws as the top seeds at the Paris Olympics 2024
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek leads the women's field as the top seed, followed by Coco Gauff. Aryna Sabalenka has chosen to give the Paris Olympics a miss, thus making Elena Rybakina the third seed. Jasmine Paolini, the runner-up at the last two Majors, is seeded fourth.
Swiatek hoisted her fourth title at the French Open a few weeks ago, which is now the venue for tennis at the Paris Olympics as well. She's also on a 19-match winning streak on clay, thus making her the overwhelming favorite to capture the gold medal.
Jannik Sinner leads the men's draw as the top seed, followed by Novak Djokovic as the second seed and Carlos Alcaraz as the third seed. A gold medal at the Olympics has proven to be quite elusive for the Serb. He came in fourth place during the previous edition of the games and won the bronze medal in 2008.
Alexander Zverev, who bagged the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, is seeded fourth. The German will aim to become only the second player to win back-to-back gold medals in singles after Andy Murray, who achieved the feat at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
Rafael Nadal is also in the mix, and after bowing out of the French Open in the first round last month, he will be keen for some redemption. He won the gold medal in singles 2008 and captured the highest honors in doubles in 2016.
