Novak Djokovic took a medical timeout during his 2025 Australian Open quarterfinal clash against Carlos Alcaraz. However, the Serb taking the timeout prompted several tennis fans to take swipes at his loyalists, who had earlier criticized Jannik Sinner for something similar during the Italian's fourth-round match against Holger Rune at the hardcourt Major.
At 4-5 down in the first set, with Carlos Alcaraz about to serve for the set, Novak Djokovic took the medical timeout. Prior to the timeout, the Serb was struggling with his movement, particularly towards his right, which ultimately led to him losing the set 4-6.
A section of tennis fans took aim at Novak Djokovic's loyalists over their criticism of Jannik Sinner. Many of the Serb's fans previously suggested that Sinner's medical timeout was more of a tactical decision than an actual injury concern. Rune too spoke up about the incident following his fourth-round loss to the defending Australian Open champion.
"Where are all the [Novak Djokovic] fans that kept attacking Sinner for doing the exact same thing?" asked one fan.
"I'm sure Djokovic fans will call out this blatant "cheating" like they did with Sinner, right?" another questioned.
"Every Djokovic fan on the planet was cooking Sinner for doing the same thing yesterday," another chimed in.
There were others who poked fun at the situation, suggesting that the former World No. 1 has found himself in such situations many times over the years. One even argued that the Serb was faking his injury.
"We've seen this dozens of times over the years. He will return on court flying after taking his vitamins," a fan wrote.
"Gone for that magic water," another added.
"Faker," one weighed in.
The 24-time Major winner's apparent injury eventually subsided from the second set onwards.

Djokovic looked back to his best in the second set, which he won 6-4 to level things up. The Serb went from strength to strength in the third set as Alcaraz's level dropped. As a result, the 24-time Grand Slam champion won the third set 6-3.
At the time of writing, the Serb and the Spaniard are playing what could very well be the decisive set of the blockbuster matchup. Whoever ultimately clinches the contest will face off against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals. Zverev himself survived an almighty scare from Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals, but eventually won the match in four sets.
In his post-match, on-court interview, the German confessed that the American played better than him across the first two sets. Zverev won the match 7-6(1), 7-6(0), 2-6, 6-1.
