Alex Michelsen has enjoyed the support of his girlfriend, Caroline Girard, during his Australian Open 2025 heroics. The American has reached his maiden Round of 16 at a Grand Slam in Melbourne.
Michelsen's remarkable Australian Open campaign so far began with a massive upset over 2023 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. He followed this with a 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(4) win against local wildcard James Mccabe.
On Saturday, January 18, Alex Michelsen beat 2023 semifinalist Karen Khachanov with a promising 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-2 scoreline to make the fourth round of a Major for the first time. The 20-year-old’s best results had been two second-round appearances at the US Open (2023 and 2024).
During his journey in Melbourne, Michelsen’s girlfriend, Caroline Girard, has been supporting him from the players’ box. She was also spotted at the ASB Classic in Auckland a couple of weeks back. Girard is a student at Southern Methodist University, pursuing a major in Finance.

What Alex Michelsen said about his girlfriend's presence at Australian Open 2025

Not much has been made public about the couple’s relationship timeline. However, Alex Michelsen recently threw light on his relationship, noting how Caroline Girard’s company has been crucial during his time Down Under.
"We've been spending a lot of quality time together because I didn't see her for about six weeks before this. So, I've been spending a lot of time with her," he told the ATP Tour.
"We'll just chill out, watch the matches. It's a lot more fun to have company in the room. I like being alone, but it’s so much better to have her company with me," the American added. "Support is big. At first, I played a lot of Challengers. I went to a lot of places by myself. I had my first ATP final at 18. I was by myself. But having the support is crucial."
Michelsen is one of the four American men to progress to the Round of 16 at the 2025 Australian Open, joining 2023 semifinalist Tommy Paul, quarterfinalist Ben Shelton, and fellow Next-Gen star Learner Tien.
The player, ranked World No. 42, faces his first top-10 opponent of the tournament—home favorite Alex de Minaur—in the fourth round on Monday, January 20. The pair have locked horns twice before, both matches coming in 2024.
At the Los Cabos Open, Michelsen prevailed with a 6-4, 6-1 scoreline. Meanwhile, at the French Open later that year, it was Alex de Minaur who earned a resounding 6-1, 6-0, 6-2 win in the opening round.
