German tennis legend Boris Becker is set to embark upon a new phase in his life. As confirmed by his lawyer to the German news agency DPA, Becker married his long-time girlfriend Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro in a private ceremony in the coastal town of Cervara Abbazia di San Girolamo al Monte, in Portofino, Liguria, Italy.

Lilian Monteiro, 34, is a political risk manager from the African island town of São Tomé and Príncipe, which has a population of just 200,000. She belongs to a political family, and her father, Victor Monteiro, served as their country's defence minister.

Monteiro has three degrees and is a polyglot, natively speaking Portuguese while also being fluent in English and German. Monteiro built her career in political risk analysis in London after completing her postgraduate studies at the School of African and Oriental Studies.

Boris Becker married his longtime girlfriend, Lilian Monteiro, in Italy on September 14. The duo got engaged in 2022.

In an interview with Vogue about her career and wedding plans, Monteiro expressed how she had never thought about marriage before crossing paths with the tennis legend. When asked what made her believe in the idea of marriage, Monteiro claimed they realized the importance of each other when they had to "deal with certain things together". She said:

"We went through so many things together that it made me understand what it means to have someone in your life that you want to share your life with. For me, marriage is about committing to each other, caring for each other, trusting each other and sticking together. We sealed our marriage a few years ago when we had to deal with certain things together." (translated from German)

Lilian was captured in an off-shoulder white wedding dress on their wedding day while Becker wore a cream blazer. The two met for the first time in 2019.

Becker and Monteiro tied the knot on September 14 in a ceremony that lasted three days. Becker's two sons from his first marriage, Elias and Noah, were among the attendees which included many high-profile athletes like football legend Ruud Gullit, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, and German model Boris Kodjoe.

The couple also attended a pre-wedding dinner in Genoa before tying the knot the following day. Around 150 people were present to mark this special occasion in Becker's life.
