The draw for the 2024 Wimbledon was unveiled on Friday, and World No. 2 Coco Gauff will take on her compatriot Caroline Dolehide in the first round. Having made the semifinals of both Majors this year, the 20-year-old will be keen to continue her good showing at this level.

Gauff introduced herself to the world at large with a fourth-round run at the 2019 Wimbledon as a plucky 15-year-old qualifier. That remains her best result at the All England Club thus far. She bowed out in the first round last year, so she will be eager to overcome that disappointment this year.

While Gauff's superstar status has been cemented for quite some time, her first-round foe, who's her fellow American, remains a bit of a mystery for the general populace. So here's a quick look into the career of her next opponent, Caroline Dolehide:

Who is Caroline Dolehide?

Dolehide was born on September 5, 1998, in Hinsdale, Illinois. She had a keen interest in tennis at a young age, and began playing the sport at the age of five. She turned pro in 2017 and while she initially planned on playing college tennis, she ultimately decided against it in order to compete on the WTA Tour.

Dolehide courted some attention in 2018 with her run to the third round of the Indian Wells Open, in her debut at the WTA 1000 level. However, she mainly grinded on the ITF and Challenger tours for the next few years, with sporadic appearances at the Majors.

The American made her Major debut at the 2018 French Open, and reached the second round. She only made five more appearances at the Majors until the end of 2022, and lost in the first round on all occasions.

Dolehide's singles career picked up in 2023 and while she was eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon and the US Open, she found success elsewhere. She reached the biggest final of her career at the Guadalajara Open, a WTA 1000 event.

As a result, Dolehide reached a new career-high ranking of No. 41. She secured her second career win at a Major by beating Leolia Jeanjean in her opener at this year's Australian Open. She has performed decently in the lead-up to Wimbledon, having made the quarterfinals in Birmingham.

Dolehide's doubles results outmatch her triumphs in singles by a good margin. She has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, and the semifinals of the other three Majors, including at this year's French Open.

The American has won one title in doubles, which was at the 2021 Monterrey Open, and has reached four more finals. She has a career high ranking of No. 18, which she achieved last month.

Circling back to her upcoming match with Gauff, the two have some history. Dolehide has lost both of her prior matches against her younger rival in straight sets, including at this year's Australian Open. Both of those matches were competitive, so she will be aiming to score a massive upset this time.
