Frances Tiafoe has commenced his campaign at the 2025 Australian Open, continuing his hunt for his maiden Grand Slam title. The 26-year-old is benefitting from the guidance of his coach, David Witt, the former American tennis player who previously worked with Venus Williams and Jessica Pegula.
Tiafoe teamed up with David Witt after ending his four-month partnership with coach Diego Moyana in April 2024. At the time, Witt was a free agent, having parted ways with Pegula following the Australian Open. The 26-year-old's decision was influenced by Witt's impressive track record, as he commended the coach on his "unbelievable years" working with Pegula and Venus Williams.
The World No. 16 will be grateful for Witt's presence in his coaching pod at this year's Melbourne Slam, having spoken highly about the 51-year-old being the "perfect guy" for the job given their longstanding friendship.
"So, it was good to just have him on my team. We've been friends for a long time, so there was an opening for him. I just wanted a fresh start with someone, and I thought he was the perfect guy. Luckily, it's been good so far," Frances Tiafoe said at the 2024 Atlanta Open.
Frances Tiafoe has kicked off his campaign against Arthur Rinderknech in the first round of the Australian Open, claiming a hard-fought 7-6(2), 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-3 victory. The American will square off against the winner of the match between Fabian Marozsan and Thiago Seyboth Wild in the second round.
