Former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka is prepared to tackle the world's very best at the Australian Open 2025. She returned to the tour last year after the birth of her daughter and rekindled her partnership with her former coach Wim Fissette. However, the two parted ways towards the end of 2024.

Osaka then hired Patrick Mouratoglou as her new coach in September, and he's currently by her side in Melbourne as well. The two tasted immediate success, and she advanced to the fourth round of the China Open, a WTA 1000 event, in their very first tournament together.

Unfortunately, an injury forced Osaka to throw in the towel halfway through her match against Coco Gauff. She started the 2025 season on a strong note by reaching the final of the ASB Classic. She even won the first set against Clara Tauson in the championship round, until another injury forced her to call it quits.

Osaka has performed well under Mouratoglou's guidance only for her body to let her down. The latter is known for coaching Serena Williams for over a decade starting from 2012 and helped her win 10 Major titles, among other accolades, during their time together.

Mouratoglou has also worked with Simona Halep, Holger Rune, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Having shaped the careers of some of the biggest names in the business, he will be gunning to lead the Japanese to glory as well.

Naomi Osaka is no stranger to making a deep run at the Australian Open, having won the title here twice in the past. She reigned supreme here for the first time in 2019, beating Petra Kvitova in a thrilling final to win the title. Two years later, she triumphed for the second time, and the victory remains her most recent career title as well.

Patrick Mouratoglou coached Serena Williams to a couple of Australian Open titles during their partnership. The American hadn't hoisted the winner's trophy Down Under since 2010 and finally ended the drought with her win in 2015. She came close to defending her title the following year but lost to Angelique Kerber in the final.

Williams bounced back in 2017 and won the tournament without dropping a set. It was also her record-breaking 23rd Major title. Mouratoglou has the requisite experience and will aim to use that to Osaka's benefit as well. She has a 24-6 record in Melbourne and hasn't made it past the quarterfinals here except during her two title-winning runs.

Osaka will take on Caroline Garcia in the first round this year, in a rematch of last year's first-round showdown. The latter ousted her back then, and the former World No. 1 will be keen to avenge that loss.
