Naomi Osaka will make her highly-anticipated return at Wimbledon after a gap of five years, and will take on Diane Parry in her first-round match on Monday, July 1. The former World No. 1's last appearance at the venue was back in 2019, when she lost in the first round to Yulia Putintseva.

The tournament was canned due to the pandemic in 2020, and Osaka didn't participate the next couple of years. She was on maternity leave last year, so once again didn't make the trip to Wimbledon.

Now, the four-time Major champion is gearing up for her return to the All England Club but faces a tricky adversary in her opener. On that note, here's a quick look in the career of her next opponent, Diane Parry:

Who is Diane Parry?

Parry was born on September 1, 2002, in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. She was a successful junior player, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 1, and was crowned the ITF World Junior Champion in 2019.

Parry made her Grand Slam debut in singles at the 2019 French Open, and reached the second round where she lost to Elise Mertens. She performed better in doubles by going one round further.

Parry won three ITF titles in 2021, and another one on the Challenger tour as well. She made her breakthrough on the WTA Tour the following year in memorable fashion. She faced defending champion Barbora Krejcikova in the first round of the French Open.

Backed by a roaring home crowd, she staged a stunning comeback to oust the Czech, and secured her first win over a top-10 player. She went on to reach the third round, her best showing at a Major in singles at that point.

Parry claimed her first title on the WTA Tour, albeit in doubles, at the 2023 Merida Open. She claimed another title in the discipline later that year at the Lausanne Open.

The 21-year-old reached the third round of the Australian Open this year, and peaked at No. 49 in the rankings in April. She's one of the few players ranked in the top 100 to have a one-handed backhand.

Parry has made two main draw appearances at Wimbledon so far, and has always crossed the first hurdle at the very least. She reached the third round on her debut in 2022, and the second round last year.

Parry recently reached the semifinals of the Rothesay Open in Nottingham, and the second round of the Bad Homburg Open. She's in decent form, and could give Osaka a run for her money when they cross paths in their very first career meeting at Wimbledon.
