On Friday, January 17, Olga Danilovic scored one of the biggest wins of her career yet, taking down World No. 7 Jessica Pegula in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open. By doing so, the Serb has reached the second week at the tournament for the first time in her career, and only for the second time at a Grand Slam.
Danilovic, now ranked World No. 53 in the WTA, is not a house-hold name in tennis just yet. However, the 23-year-old is considered one with great potential, especially with her results in junior tennis.
On the junior tour, she reached as high as No. 5 with combined doubles and singles ranking, winning three doubles Grand Slams -- the French Open in 2016, followed by the Wimbledon and US Open in 2017.
The Serb had the backing of her parents during her early years into the sport, both of whom have a background in sports. Her father, Predrag, is considered one of the greatest shooting guards in the history of European basketball. After multiple accolades across Europe, including winning the EuroLeague (1992) and finishing as the top scorer of the EuroLeague (1995), he had a stint in the NBA with the Miami Heat.
For the Heat, Predrag played two years between 1995 and 1997. He initially came in on a $8 million salary, but forfeited nearly $5 million of it after leaving the team two years before the contract ended. Among his biggest achievements in basketball is winning the Olympic silver medal, doing so at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Predrag enjoyed a great time in the Italian League, winning it four times with Virtus Bologna. After retirement, he became the president of the Serbian Basketball Federation in 2016, and was re-elected to the post in 2020. Meanwhile, Olga Danilovic's mother Svetlana is a sports reporter, and met her husband in their teens at a basketball game.
Olga Danilovic is currently dating Jan Oblak, a professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
