Sebastian Korda had his first breakthrough at the Australian Open
For Sebastian Korda, the Australian Open is the tournament where he made a name for himself. In the 2023 edition, he entered as the 29th seed at Melbourne. He opened his campaign with a four-set win over Christian Garin and followed it up with a straight-set victory over Yosuke Watanuki.
However, Korda's biggest win came in the third round when he faced off against seventh-seeded Daniil Medvedev. The Russian was a two-time finalist at Melbourne Park. However, Korda showed no nerves and won the match in straight sets. He then played a five-set thriller against tenth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round, winning the match in the 10-point tiebreak in the fifth set.
His run was snapped by 18-th seeded Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals. But it was this run at a Grand Slam that propelled Korda in the rankings and made the tennis world take note of him. However, he has not been able to sustain his form as after that he has not passed the third round at any Major.
