Iga Swiatek was left surprised during a Wimbledon press conference when a journalist wrongly asked her if she hopes to play at the Olympics in the future as she is not participating this year. The Pole had to reaffirm that she was playing for her country at the upcoming Games. Fans were disappointed with the quality of journalism.

Swiatek made her Olympics debut in 2021 when she played in Tokyo and represented Poland. The World No. 1 will represent her nation again in Paris at the upcoming Olympics.

Notably, the 2024 Olympic Games, slated to begin in July, will take place at the Roland-Garros grounds. It is a familiar hunting ground for her as she has won four of the last five French Open tournaments with her most recent triumph coming just a few weeks ago.

Currently, the Pole is preparing to participate in Wimbledon. During her latest press conference at the tournament, a journalist claimed she was not participating in the Olympics and asked her if she hopes to ever play in one. Swiatek handled the situation calmly and informed the room that she was surely playing in Paris in July.

However, fans were left unimpressed by the lack of research from the journalist.

"Whoever asked that question should feel ashamed. You have the privilege to be in the press room of the most traditional and important tennis tournament in the world and you can't google? There are journalists from less developed countries who would kill to have that seat," one fan wrote.
"Quality journalism," another fan wrote sarcastically.
"Insane you can get press accreditation at WIMBLEDON and not know the world no.1 is playing the Olympics," a third fan wrote.

Here are some more reactions to the journalist's blunder.

"Who asked this question? Because this is ridiculous," one fan wrote.
"Tennis media sucks," another fan wrote.
"Who’s paying these clowns?" asked a fan.

Iga Swiatek has historically struggled on the grass courts of Wimbledon. She has participated in the Grand Slam four times and racked up a first-round (2019), fourth-round (2021), third-round (2022), and a quarterfinal finish (2023).

The five-time Grand Slam winner would be hoping to change her fortunes in London as she faces 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin in the first round of 2024 Wimbledon. The pair have met twice before and Swiatek holds a 2-0 head-to-head record against the American.
