Emma Raducanu won't be making a trip to the City of Love this year, as she has withdrawn from the 2024 French Open. She was slated to compete in the qualifying rounds of the season's second Major but pulled out a few hours before its start on Monday, May 20.
Raducanu returned to action earlier this year after undergoing wrist and ankle surgeries last year. Her ranking took a hit during her absence from the tour, and she has relied on wildcards and protected ranking to enter tournaments.
Raducanu's protected ranking comes to No. 103, which isn't high enough to secure a main draw spot. Her request for a main draw wildcard into the French Open was turned down by the organizers. The Brit needed three more players to withdraw to sneak into the main draw.
However, Raducanu would have had to grind it out in the qualifiers in case there were no further withdrawals. The Brit famously won the 2021 US Open after coming through the qualifying rounds. However, she has instead opted to rest and train for the upcoming grass season.
Raducanu has participated in eight events this season, including the Billie Jean King Cup. A third-round showing at the Indian Wells Open, and a quarterfinal appearance in Stuttgart have been her best results so far.
She hasn't competed since her first-round exit from the Madrid Open and admitted to feeling exhausted following her most recent defeat.
"I think from the performance today it was very clear that mentally and emotionally I was exhausted " - Emma Raducanu on the reason behind her Madrid Open exit

Emma Raducanu's clay swing began on a stellar note, as she helped her team qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
She secured wins over Angelique Kerber and Linda Noskova at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix to make the last eight. The Brit's run came to an end against World No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
Raducanu was expected to perform well at the Madrid Open given her form. However, she was stunned by qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle in the first round. Following the loss, she said that she was exhausted after playing non-stop tennis for a few weeks, which affected her performances.
"I think from the performance today it was very clear that mentally and emotionally I was exhausted. I was trying to push through. I was pushing through Stuttgart and was just unable to push through today," Emma Raducanu said (via the Guardian).
With Raducanu not participating in the French Open, one can expect her to be back on court in one of the warm-up events leading to Wimbledon. The grass swing begins on June 10 with the Libema Open in the Netherlands and the Nottingham Open in Great Britain.
