The conclusion of the US Open marked the end of Grand Slams for the season. The men's final saw Jannik Sinner take home the trophy in an incredible showdown against home hero Taylor Fritz. Many A-listers made an appearance at Flushing Meadows. Among them was Taylor Swift, accompanied by boyfriend Travis Kelce, his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes, and his wife and former soccer player Brittany Mahomes.

Swift was pictured hugging Brittany Mahomes, which did not sit well with tennis fans. Mahomes is a controversial figure due to her political stance. Previously, she has liked Trump's 'The 2024 GOP platform' post on Instagram on August 13. The plan entailed many controversial propositions such as 'stopping migrant invasion', cutting federal funding for schools, pushing 'Critical Race Theory', and many more.

Mahomes defended herself from the critics, saying on Instagram:

“I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump thanked her on his social media platform Truth Social on September 4:

“I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country."

Many fans thought Swift was distancing from Mahomes due to the controversy as the duo was in separate suites at the Kansas City Chiefs opener against the Baltimore Ravens. But a couple of days later, they were pictured embracing each other at the US Open final.

Fans took to Twitter to call Taylor Swift a hypocrite for being friends with someone holding opposing political views. Swift on previous occasions has made her political stance clear. In her documentary Miss Americana, she takes an opposing stance to Republican senator Marsha Blackburn.

"She won by being a female applying to the kind of female males want us to be in a horrendous 1950s world," Swift said of Blackburn in her documentary Miss Americana.

Also, she allowed the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris 2020 campaign to use one of her songs, Only the Young, for free.

Many fans called her out saying:

"i’m kinda so done with her, like not to sound parasocial but this really fucking hurts, especially as a lesbian cause why is she hanging out with a fucking trumpie, like did the whole lover/miss americana era mean nothing to her??"

One fan took a jibe at her for staying quiet on the Palestinian cause:

"for taylor swift, talking about palestine is too “controversial” for her, yet hanging out with a rape apologist trump supporter is completely ok to her 😍😙😙😙😚😚 i love white feminism"

Another likened Swift to a big corporation, who only says or does things to maintain her brand.

Jannik Sinner quashed the hopes of millions of Americans as he defeated Taylor Fritz to win the men's singles US Open title. The Italian started strong, breaking the American's serve in the first game, but Fritz fought back to draw parity at 2-2. But Sinner raised his level to win four consecutive games and take the set 6-3.

In the second set, both competitors held their serve until the World No. 1 broke Fritz's serve at 5-4, to win the set. The third set provided early opportunities for the American to break the 23-year-old's serve but Sinner saved three break points to hold.

However, Fritz managed to break his serve in the seventh game and went 5-3 up. Sinner, then, won four consecutive games to win the match 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 and lift the US Open. This was the Italian's second Grand Slam title, after the 2024 Australian Open. Fritz, who was playing his first Grand Slam final, was rewarded with a ranking of World No. 7 for his incredible run.
