Katie Boulter successfully defended her title at the 2024 Nottingham Open. While celebrating her victory in her home tournament, the Brit fired a friendly threat towards her boyfriend, Alex de Minaur, who was absent during the final match.
Boulter faced Karolina Pliskova in the title contest at the 2024 Nottingham Open. The Brit, who won her maiden WTA Tour title in Nottingham last year, was off the blocks quickly, breaking Pliskova in the first game. But the Czech got back in the set with two late breaks of her opponent's serve.
Boulter was much more composed in the next two sets. She did well to hang on to Pliskova's break of serves and won the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. She was surprised after bettering Pliskova and happy with her progress this week on the grass courts after a not-so-ideal claycourt swing.
“This is a little bit of deja vu, I’m not entirely sure if I am dreaming or this has happened. It is incredible to be here, it’s got a special place in my heart, it always will do. It’s been an incredible week for me, mentally tough after a really hard clay-court season," Katie Boulter said during her on-court interview.
The 27-year-old then joked about her boyfriend Alex de Minaur's absence during her match. She thought the Aussie would come to Nottingham after winning the ATP 250 title at the Libema Open in the Netherlands, which took place on the same day. However, that was not the case, and Boulter joked about breaking up with De Minaur due to his no-show.
“My boyfriend didn’t make the trip even though I thought he might after his win in Hertogenbosch so we will have to be talking about that tonight and see if we are still together! I hope he is listening to this, we have got some talking to do! It’s been a great week for me,” she quipped.
Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter have been in a relationship since early 2020. They recently celebrated their fourth anniversary in early March.
Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter win titles in the same week for the second time in 2024
Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter emerged victorious at the tour level in the same week for the second time this year, with the former winning the Libema Open and the latter defending the title in Nottingham.
Boulter had to double duty by beating Emma Raducanu and Karolina Pliskova on the same day to win the WTA 250 tournament. Meanwhile, De Minaur defeated Sebastian Korda in the title contest of the ATP 250 event on June 17.
The first time the tennis power couple won titles in the same week was in early March. Alex de Minaur defeated Casper Ruud in the final of the ATP 500 Mexican Open in Acapulco on March 3. The Australian No. 1 then flew to San Diego to witness his girlfriend better Marta Kostyuk to win the biggest title of her career at the WTA 500 San Diego Open.
Next up for Katie Boulter is another home tournament, this time in Birmingham. She is seeded No. 4 at the WTA 250 Birmingham Classic and will face Anhelina Kalinina in the first round.
Meanwhile, Alex de Minaur will head to London to compete in the ATP 500 Queen's Club Championships, where he was the runner-up last year. The Aussie will face Lorenzo Musetti in the first round.
