Jannik Sinner recently became the men's World No. 1 and arrives at Wimbledon with high prospects of winning his second Major title. However, he might have to beat arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals to achieve the feat, provided both hold up their respective ends of the deal.
Sinner is currently in red-hot form, having won last week's Halle title - a tune-up event to this year's grasscourt Major. Meanwhile, Alcaraz failed to defend his 2023 Queen's Club title as he exited the ATP 500 tournament in the second round.
Consequently, Carlos Alcaraz dropped from No. 2 in the world to No. 3, which led to him being pitted against his Italian rival in a prospective semifinal clash at the All England Club. The Spaniard, however, can boast of winning last month's French Open and can complete the elusive 'Channel Slam' during the next fortnight.
Alcaraz has received a respectable draw en route to the semifinals, as there are few players with grasscourt expertise in his section of the draw. The defending champion's toughest prospective opponents include 16th-seeded Ugo Humbert (fourth round) and Queen's Club champion Tommy Paul (quarterfinals).
Jannik Sinner could face 2021 Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini in the second round, which will be followed by prospective clashes against grasscourt specialist Tallon Griekspoor and 2023 US Open semifinalist Ben Shelton in the third and fourth round, respectively.
The 22-year-old gets no respite from thereon, as he will face familiar foe and World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev for a place in the semifinals. Should he manage to navigate past this challenge, a 10th career meeting with Alcaraz awaits him.

Jannik Sinner currently trails Carlos Alcaraz by a close margin of 4-5 in their head-to-head meetings on the ATP tour. Moreover, he has lost their last two Grand Slam matches at the 2022 US Open and the 2024 French Open in heartbreaking fashion in five sets.
That said, Sinner did beat Alcaraz in their lone grasscourt encounter at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Back then, both players were yet to reach even the semifinals of a Major tournament. The Italian overcame the Spaniard 6-1, 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-3 in the fourth round to reach the last eight at SW19.
The encounter set the tone for the Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz rivalry as the two met seven more times on the ATP tour. This year, they have already face off twice, with Alcaraz coming up trumps on both occasions (2024 Indian Wells Masters semifinals, 2024 French Open semifinals).
