"Unless you have real belief that you can beat Novak Djokovic, you’ve got no chance at all" - John McEnroe hails Serb ahead of Australian Open 2024

In a recent interview, John McEnroe hailed Novak Djokovic as the best player he had ever witnessed, highlighting the Serb's technical, mental, and physical prowess.

McEnroe also emphasized that opponents require strong self-belief to stand any chance against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

"Technically he’s the best player I’ve seen: mentally, physically. Unless you have the real belief in your head that you can beat him, you’ve got no chance at all," McEnroe said, via Eurosport.

With the Serb having won 10 titles at the Melbourne Slam, McEnroe said that he has defied the law of averages, drawing a comparison to Rafael Nadal's dominance at the French Open.

"A few players can rise to the occasion such as Alcaraz at Wimbledon, but few have. He’s won 10 Australian Opens, and the law of averages would say someone at some point will win another one. But we said the same about Rafa (Nadal) at the French, so who knows what will happen," he added.

Djokovic will commence his quest for a 25th Grand Slam title on Sunday, squaring off against qualifier Dino Prizmic in his Australian Open opener.
