In a post-match interview of the second round at the US Open 2023, where Coco Gauff bested Mirra Andreeva, the former spoke about her bond with the NBA player, Jimmy Butler. She spoke about her friendship with Butler and said that his mentality helped her become a better tennis player.

Gauff also lauded him by calling him talented, as quoted by Talksport.com:

"He has that mentality really of, you know, no matter what the odds are against him, he's gonna give it his all. I think he's just one of those athletes [where] the mentality makes his game even better. You have people that are talented and don't have the mentality. I think he has the talent and the mentality. It's just taking him even further."

Coco Gauff added:

"Between Wimbledon and the next tournament I played, nothing could have really changed that much. It was really just the mental thing. I think that's what I learned from watching Jimmy compete over the years."

The first match of the season for Coco Gauff was the United Cup tournament, where she delivered staunch performances to reach the finals. She won the title of the tournament by defeating Iga Swiatek in the finals with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
