Jessica Pegula recently revealed that she finds women's tennis to be more entertaining than men's tennis. The American is through to the third round at the 2024 US Open following wins over Shelby Rogers and Sofia Kenin.
Pegula, in a press conference after her second-round win, talked about how much she likes to watch men's tennis. The World No. 6 also shared her excitement for the blockbuster match between compatriots Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe.
"Yeah, I definitely watch a lot of men’s matches. I was watching Taylor [Fritz] and [Matteo] Berrettini last night. Francis [Tiafoe] and Ben [Shelton] is going to obviously be a big match. I was hoping they all won and made it to the third round because I saw they were going to play each other fairly early in a slam. So that’ll be really exciting," Jessica Pegula said.
She then added that even though she watches a lot of men's tennis, she prefers women's tennis as men's tennis can get 'repetitive' while women's tennis is 'exciting'.
"Yeah, I like watching men’s tennis, I still think women’s is more entertaining because they [male tennis players] are so fast and their serves are so good that sometimes it can get repetitive but I love seeing their match-ups and how they play each other and even trying to pick up on things that they like to do, but it’s definitely a different game so I like watching and learning, and obviously I watched Novak a little bit last night too," she added.
Jessica Pegula's remarks come months after Aryna Sabalenka was criticized for saying that she found men's tennis to be more logical and interesting than women's tennis.
