Novak Djokovic superfan Pavvy G has received criticism for supporting Andy Roddick while involved in a feud with the American. He has long supported the Serb's on-court exploits and backed him amid off-court controversies. For instance, he backed Djokovic's widely condemned opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine.
G's feud with Roddick began before Wimbledon this year when he had established his podcast "Served With Andy Roddick" as a popular platform for him and other analysts and ex-players to discuss developments in the tennis world. Contrasting takes of the two on X (formerly Twitter), primarily on matters Roddick discussed on his podcast (including those related to Djokovic), led to the former World No. 1 questioning G's tennis knowledge and credibility.
The 2003 US Open champion further escalated matters by labeling G "a clown" in one of their back-and-forths. Since then, G has continued criticizing Roddick on tennis subjects including the American's views on Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek's doping rows. However, in a shock to other fans on social media, the podcast has shared a post featuring a screenshot of its 'Top Supporters', with G at the top of the list.
Tennis fans ridiculed G for being a 'top supporter' of Roddick's podcast despite his differences.
"WOWWWWW. He CLEARED them. Wouldn’t show my face after this kind of call out, gathering the mentally unstable," one wrote.
"Cooked the crooks frauds," another commented.
"Game Set Match," a third fan said.
"@pavyg oh you're so over," yet another wrote.
Others lambasted G over what they perceived as his "toxic" behavior on X.
"Only twitter could have made a toxic person like pavyg relevant. But hey, he is making an income with it, good for him, less for Nole which will have a lot of undeserved backlash for this (not by me). But i dont think pavy really cares about that," a fan wrote.
"Thanks @pavyg to be the no 1 fan of @Served_Podcast,But @pavyg you are the biggest liar on the whole panet,I think you deserve to be the atp biggest liar award of 2024 ,Legend@andyroddick you are doing the great work ,You don't defend anyone you just talk the rational things," another added.
The 2024 Paris Olympics men's singles gold winner himself has shouted out the superfan in the past. However, the Serb later came under fire from a section of tennis fans for doing so.
Novak Djokovic's shout-out for his superfan prompted backlash
After sealing his place in the 2024 Wimbledon final with a convincing semifinal win over Lorenzo Musetti, Novak Djokovic expressed gratitude to his fans. He named two of them, including Pavvy G:
"These are people who are very important in my life, who follow me. For example Julie, Pavvy G, I don't know how many are there who have been following me for 15 years. People who chose to spend days or months or years of their lives with me and with me. I have to constantly remind myself that this is not something that is normal."
The 24-time Major winner's words did not sit well with many fans, who questioned why he would endorse a fan who has gained notoriety for his controversial views and opinions.
