The women's singles tournament at the 2024 Wimbledon Championship ended with Barbora Krejcikova claiming her second Grand Slam title. The Czech player defeated Italy's Jasmine Paolini in the summit clash in a great three-set battle.
The win saw Krejcikovo make a massive gain on the WTA race Rankings for the year-ending championships at Riyadh. The Wimbledon win gave the Cezch player a complement of 2000 points and helped her break into the top 8. Krejcikova moved up by 45 positions and currently sits 7th on the Race Rankings.
Jasmine Paolini who became the runners-up at the Championships, further added 1300 points to her overall tally. She stands at 4505 points and moved two places up to the 3rd position on the rankings. She displaced Aryna Sabalenka from the position, who dropped to 5th position, as she withdrew from Wimbledon due to injury.
World No. 2 Coco Gauff had a shock loss against Emma Navarro in the fourth round at Wimbledon. As a result, she could earn only 240 points for her efforts. This took her points tally to 3598 but made her slip to fifth position in the race to Riyadh, as Paolini moved past her.
Another player who rose was World No. 4 Elena Rybakina who moved to the second spot after the London Major. The 2022 Wimbledon Champion made it to the semi-finals in 2024, earning 780 points and taking her tally to 4901 points.
Along with Barbora Krejcikova, Donna Vekic improved her position on the rankings as well after Wimbledon 2024
Just like Barbora Krejcikova, Donna Vekic had a breakthrough performance at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships as well. The Croatian made her first Grand Slam semi-final at SW-19. As a result, she scored 780 points which saw her rise by 12 positions on the WTA race rankings. She currently sits at the 12th position, and given her current form, she has a great chance of breaking into the top 8.
Another player who had significant gains from Wimbledon was Ukraine's Elina Svitlona. Svitolina reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, earning 430 points and taking her to the 18th, an improvement by 9 positions on the rankings.
Iga Swaitek remains the only player who has already qualified for the year-ending showpiece event. Even though the World No.1 lost to Yulia Putintseva in the third round of Wimbledon, she firmly remains in the top spot due to her previous exploits in the season. She is adrift by more than 2000 points than the second-placed Elena Rybakina.
Defending Wimbledon Champion, Marketa Vondrousova was knocked out of the top 20 in the WTA Race Rankings as she lost against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first round.
