With the Australian Open 2025 done and dusted, it has led to a considerable shake-up in this week's WTA rankings. Madison Keys claimed her maiden Major title with a win over two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the final. She returns to the top 10 thanks to her triumph at No. 7, matching her career-high ranking which she first achieved back in 2016.
Aside from Sabalenka, Keys also beat the likes of Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Elina Svitolina, and Danielle Collins en route to the title. This was one of the hardest runs to a Major title, and the American raised her level every step of the way to emerge victorious.
Sabalenka and Swiatek were involved in a fight for the No. 1 spot, with the former retaining it by reaching the final. The latter lost in the semifinals, and remained steady at No. 2. There's more good news for American tennis as along with Keys, there are three more women ranked in the top 10 this week.
Coco Gauff is a non-mover at No. 3 despite losing in the quarterfinals and failing to defend her semifinal points. Jessica Pegula's surprise third-round exit didn't affect her place in the WTA rankings, and held on to her position at No. 6. Emma Navarro advanced to the last eight in Melbourne for the first time but fell down a rung to No. 9 this week.
Jasmine Paolini remained steady at No. 4, while Elena Rybakina moved up a couple of spots to No. 5. Zheng Qinwen crashed out in the second after reaching the final last year, and slipped three spots to No. 8 in this week's WTA rankings. Paula Badosa's semifinal finish pushed her back into the region at No. 10.
Donna Vekic, Olga Danilovic among those to reach new peaks after the Australian Open, Sloane Stephens out of the top 100 of the WTA rankings
Donna Vekic's fourth-round showing at the Australian Open has helped her achieve a new career-high of No. 17 in this week's WTA rankings. Olga Danilovic, who also reached the fourth round with an upset win over Jessica Pegula, jumped 14 spots to a new career peak of No. 41.
Even though Naomi Osaka had to retire in the third-round due to an injury, she moved up nine spots to No. 42. Former US Open champion Sloane Stephens went down to Aryna Sabalenka in the first round of the Melbourne Major, and the loss has affected her ranking in a big way. She fell 23 spots and dropped out of the top 100 to No. 104.
Lucky loser Eva Lys had a memorable time at the Australian Open. Anna Kalinskaya's last-minute withdrawal opened up a spot for her, and she made the most of her second shot by reaching the fourth round, her best result at a Major. As a result, she has cracked the top 100 of the WTA rankings for the first time, and flew 37 places to No. 91.
