Iga Swiatek continues her reign atop the WTA rankings, with Dubai and Merida winners Barbora Krejcikova and Camila Giorgi making huge jumps up the ladder following their remarkable runs last week.
Despite coming up short against Krejcikova in the Dubai Tennis Championships final, Swiatek entered her 48th straight week as the top-ranked player when the rankings were updated on Monday (February 27). With 10,595 points, she is seated comfortably atop the ladder — well ahead of the No. 2 ranked Aryna Sabalenka.
Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur and Caroline Garcia round out the top-5. There have been no changes to the top-10 rankings since last week.
Krejikova, meanwhile, returned to the top 20 after climbing 14 spots. She is now ranked No. 16 just behind compatriot Petra Kvitova — who is the top-ranked Czech on the ranking ladder. Former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova follows the two at No. 17.
Notably, Krejcikova's memorable run in Dubai has seen her beat three top-ranked players in the form of Pegula, Sabalenka and Swiatek. The Czech is joined by Madison Keys, who made a return to the top 20 at the expense of Jelena Ostapenko. The American climbed three spots to be placed at No. 20, while the Latvian dropped six places to be ranked No. 26.
Krejcikova's fellow WTA winner from last week Giorgi also clawed her way back into the top 50 of the world rankings. The Italian, who dropped only one set en route to a fourth career title at the Merida Open Akron, saw her ranking jump 22 spots — from No. 68 to No. 46.
Rebecca Peterson, the only player to take a set off Giorgi in Merida last week, was the biggest mover inside the top 100. Her run to the final of the WTA 250 event saw her soar 41 spots to squeeze her way back into the top 100 at No. 99.
Karolina Muchova, and Ana Bogdan among biggest winners outside top 50 of WTA rankings
Karolina Muchova and Ana Bogdan, both of whom made their presence felt at the Dubai Tennis Championships, were among the biggest winners in the WTA rankings outside the top-10 bracket.
Muchova has been on a steady road to recovery ever since her return from injury last year. The former Wimbledon semifinalist took out the likes of Sorana Cirstea and Belinda Bencic in Dubai before handing a walkover to Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals. The performance was strong enough to see her climb 35 spots to re-enter the top 100 in style. She is now ranked World No. 77.
Ana Bogdan, who came through the qualifying draw in Dubai before beating Shelby Rogers, jumped 18 spots to be placed at No. 57.
Other big movers on the WTA rankings included Sloane Stephens (10 down from No. 41 to 51), Anett Kontaveit (34 down from to No. 27 No. 61) and Caty McNally (17 up from No. 92 to No. 75).
