The final WTA 1000 tournament of the year, the Wuhan Open, is set to take place from October 7 to 13, 2024.
Last held five years ago, the previous edition saw Aryna Sabalenka claim the title, and she will lead the field again this year following World No. 1 Iga Swiatek's withdrawal. Sabalenka has already secured one WTA 1000 title in 2024, winning in Cincinnati by defeating Jessica Pegula in the final.
Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, Coco Gauff, and Zheng Qinwen complete the top five seeds.
As the world’s top players prepare to descend in China for the last WTA 1000 event this year, here’s a look at the key details for this prestigious event.
What is the Wuhan Open?
The Wuhan Open, the newest and final WTA 1000 event on the tennis calendar, takes place in Wuhan, China. It made its debut in 2014, replacing the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo as a Premier 5-level tournament.
After a five-year hiatus, the Wuhan Open returns to the WTA Tour this year with upgraded WTA 1000 status. It is one of two premier tournaments in China, second in prestige only to the recently concluded China Open.
The event features a 56-player singles draw and a 28-team doubles field. Aryna Sabalenka and Petra Kvitova have both won the singles title twice, while Venus Williams and Caroline Garcia have also claimed victories here.
Venue
The Optics Valley International Tennis Center in Wuhan, Hubei, China will host the 2024 Wuhan Open.
