US tennis star Jessica Pegula has fired back at a troll taking digs at her on the Elon Musk-owned X. The development comes days after the World No. 6 suffered a shocking upset at the hands of Serbia's Olga Danilovic in the third round of the ongoing Australian Open.

The interaction was on X, where Pegula commented on a clip shared by the official page of the Australian Open featuring interviews from doubles team Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider who have made the semifinals:

"Ok adorable"

"Tennis + UFC", an X page with just over 1,000 followers, which frequently shares memes and opinions regarding tennis, reacted to Pegula's comment, writing:

"Facts"

Pegula, who seems to have noticed that the account often criticizes her tennis, fired back:

"Wait you’re the account that always tells me how I suck - are we friends now?"

Tennis + UFC" took the jibe sportingly, and reposted the comment on its profile:

"Glad to see my very valid criticism has made its way to her!"

Days earlier, the account had accused Pegula and compatriot Emma Navarro of being "hobbyists" in a scathing post:

"No dog in either of [them] and no need to win."

Furthermore, after Pegula's loss at the Australian Open, the account owner commented that they "hated" the American.

While Pegula is the daughter of billionaire Buffalo Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula, Navarro is the daughter of billionaires Ben and Kelly Navarro.

Jessica Pegula has alleged that slow courts caused her ouster from the Australian Open

After losing to Serbia's Olga Danilovic, Jessica Pegula complained that the slow conditions favored her opponent's game (via Tennis World USA):

"Conditions were so slow. It was slower than a clay court, it felt like. The balls were so heavy, and that totally I think favored [Olga] for sure. Especially with her lefty kind of whippy forehand up to my backhand, it's really tough."

After missing the Brisbane Internation with an injury, the 30-year-old enjoyed a strong start to the season at the Adelaide International, making it into the final. However, she lost 3-6, 6-4, 1-6 to countrywoman Madison Keys in the decider.

Keys has continued her strong run in the Australian Open, reaching the semifinal stage of the season's first Major tournament. She also made the final at the WTA 1000 tournament at Cincinnati.
