"You don't like Kendrick Lamar?" - Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian shuts down criticism that he should 'be better' being married to American

Alexis Ohanian, tennis legend Serena Williams' husband, got into a war of words on Wednesday (December 4) with an individual who had seemingly taken offense to his usage of rapper Kendrick Lamar's lyrics for a post.

Ohanian had posted on X (formerly Twitter):

"Yeah, keep your head down and work like I do. But understand everybody ain't gon' like you," the lyrics from 'Wacced Out Murals', a track from the 37-year-old rapper's sixth studio album 'GNX', which was released last month to widespread acclaim.

A user on X, perhaps unaware that the words were derived from a Lamar track, snapped back at Ohanian. He advised Ohanian to "be better" as he was married to Serena, claiming that "the bar is higher."

"Please stop talking like a tech bro that Silicon Valley used to skewer a decade ago," he wrote.

Ohanian in response quizzed the commenter if he did not like Lamar. "Bro, you ain’t from Compton through marriage," the user replied, referencing the Californian city famed for being the home of Serena Williams as well as many famous rappers, including Lamar. Ohanian tweeted in response:

"So I can't tweet lyrics unless I'm from the same place as the artist?"

Ohanian had previously expressed his support for Lamar in the latter's publicized feud with fellow rapper Drake. The Reddit co-founder had also given a shout out to the 37-year-old rapper in his Instagram stories after Lamar released 'GNX.'

Alexis Ohanian married Serena Williams on November 16, 2017, and the couple have two daughters: Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., born in September 2017, and Adira River Ohanian, born in August 2023.

Ohanian is quite active on social media and often shares his views and opinions on a myriad of topics, including but not confined to tennis. On X alone, the entrepreneur has over 564,000 followers.

Last week, Ohanian revealed that he had "suspicious nodules" on his thyroid for the last 4 years, which he had surgically removed as the nodules were getting bigger and the latest biopsy revealed "they'd very likely turn cancerous."

In July, Ohanian disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness caused by borrelia bacteria. Ohanian has also used his platform to condemn 'racism' in sports.
